Forspoken – a new action role playing game developed by Luminous Productions and published by Square Enix had a free demo dropped to the Playstation 5. But is this a game to mark on your 2023 calendars or one to miss? Let’s dive in shall we.
What is Forspoken about?
The game follows Frey Holland – played by the ever beautiful actress Ella Balinska who you might remember from the short lived Resident Evil Netflix show – As a New York woman thrust in to the world of Athia. Which is under tyrannical rule of the Tantas. If you are used to role playing games you will immediately understand the genre but the twist on gameplay is that it focuses on terrain traveral with speed. An intersting touch.
Forspoken demo
Released to the Playstation store in December 2022 ahead of it’s full January 2033 release date (note: PlayStation 5 store as this is a PS5 exclusive (Sorry PS4 users) The demo is essential a vertical slice – you are thrust in to it’s world with very few main objectives and a whole lot more optional quests. The length of the demo is up to you. If you focus on the main quests expect to be done with it pretty quick but completing the optional side quests opens up more time to be spent.
The best thing Forspoken has going is it’s unique traversal mechanic allowing players to dash accross it’s vast open world parkour style. One criticism for many players is that while the world is vast, there isn’t a whole lot to do.
Forspoken also has an interestingcombat system in which the player can choose between varying attacks which does make the gameplay fun.
